Quantification of Clay Minerals and Its Correlation with Chemical and Index Properties of Soil

Clay-mineral composition is one of the factors that determine physical and engineering behaviours finegrained soils; however, it usually ignored in soil investigations, because determination clay-mineral necessitates using sophisticated instruments which are time-consuming require skilled personnel. Many correlations exist for faster prediction properties from its index properties, but quicker amount clay mineral still unexplored. This study focuses on determining present a sample rapidly by correlating claymineral percentages with chemical aids selecting proper construction guidelines before undertaking work. Clay-soil samples collected 20 different locations Tamil Nadu state India were subjected to tests, like cation exchange capacity (CEC), specific surface area (SSA) total potassium (TP), quantify minerals such as kaolinite, illite montmorillonite. Correlations developed montmorillonite terms (CEC, SSA TP) properties. It was observed percentage has shown stronger correlation than kaolinite percentages, physico-chemical behaviour.
